The SCC Slurm cluster is divided into several partitions, each with different nodes, purposes, and time limits. The goal of this document is to help you understand the best use cases for each partition.
Partitions
Debug Partition:
- Nodes: node[03-10], node[23-27]
- Max Time: 2 hours
- Default: No
- Best Use: Use this partition for debugging your scripts and applications. The short time limit is ideal for testing and troubleshooting.
Interact Partition:
- Nodes: node[03-10], node[23-27]
- Max Time: 2 hours
- Default: No
- Best Use: Use this partition for interactive sessions.
Build Partition:
- Nodes: node[03-10], node[12-20], node[23-32], gpu01, ncnode02
- Max Time: 48 hours
- Default: Yes
- Best Use: Use this partition for building and compiling applications. This partition includes GPU nodes for GPU-accelerated applications.
Epic Partition:
- Nodes: epic[01-05]
- Max Time: 4000 hours
- Default: No
- Best Use: Use this partition for long-running, resource-intensive computations.
Short Partition:
- Nodes: node[03-10], node[12-20], node[23-32], gpu01
- Max Time: 2 hours
- Default: Yes
- Best Use: Use this partition for short jobs that can complete quickly.
Medium Partition:
- Nodes: node[04-10], node[12-20], node[23-32]
- Max Time: 12 hours
- Default: No
- Best Use: Use this partition for jobs that require more time than the 'short' partition but don't need a full day.
Long Partition:
- Nodes: node[05-10], node[12-20], node[24-32]
- Max Time: 24 hours
- Default: No
- Best Use: Use this partition for jobs that require a full day to run.
Very Long Partition:
- Nodes: node[06-10], node[12-20], node[24-32]
- Max Time: 4000 hours
- Default: No
- Best Use: Use this partition for very long-running jobs.
GPU Partition:
- Nodes: gpu01
- Max Time: Infinite
- Default: No
- Best Use: Use this partition for GPU-accelerated jobs. This partition should be used when the computations can leverage GPU capabilities.
