We are a large research institution with many researchers and many projects. Ensuring that all data in the platform uses the same naming conventions for sites, projects, participants, sessions, and etc, avoids confusion and allows us to build standard systems that work for everyone. To this end, the Neuroinformatics Platform defines standard naming conventions, which are described below.
All data in the platform must adhere to these conventions to ensure that the platform works properly. As one example, the imaging pipelines (QC/QA/preprocessing) in XNAT rely on proper naming to be able to run. Naming conventions also lead to reproducible science, since data sharing is only practical when researchers are able to understand data collected by other researchers and other projects.
The following links describe our naming convention and are intended as a reference for users who need a refresher on proper KCNI naming convention.
